Mapping, GIS & Data Capture

Having accurate information and up to data maps is a prerequisite for efficient woodland management. Cawdor Forestry specialises in the management of woodland information on a bespoke database, linked to the latest GIS software.

Quality Information

It is essential to have detailed and accurate information about a woodland to be able to make informed decisions about long term management. This information can be complex, particularly in large, diverse forests, where there will be many compartments and subcompartment of crop details, site details and constraints and different ownerships to record. To be relevant, this data needs to be kept up to date and easy to access.

Cawdor Forestry has developed an integrated system linking a customised database to an advanced GIS package which facilitates easy management, manipulation and visualisation of data. This powerful and versatile system is a valuable tool for producing long tem management plans, communicating and winning approval for new proposals and cash flow projections.

Gathering Accurate Information

Cawdor Forestry combines expert skills with the latest techniques to gather accurate, up to date information about clients' forests, including:

Digital Mapping and Data Management

Information is stored on a forest database linked to GIS software. With this we can display any aspect of the woodland graphically to demonstrate particular plans or designs and produce clear and concise maps. Managing the data in this environment makes it easy to access and update. The data can be manipulated and displayed in map or chart form and as the system is interactive, any changes made to the database will automatically amend the map.

Visualisation

Cawdor Forestry's unique visualisation service enables us to use the same maps and data to produce accurate, photo realistic 3D visuals of the woodlands. The versatility of the system means we can produce impressive visuals of any number of views or perspectives, making it ideal for testing design options and presenting plans to licensing authorities or consultees.
